Highlights of 2018 and looking to the New Year ahead

As we enter a new year, and I start to plan my goals for 2019, I wanted to take the time to reflect on the achievements of the past year.

2018 has been a big year for Pasticceria Lorena, one of change, one of consolidation and one of exciting new ventures. It began with a shift to deliver purely Italian based products, as some of you will know I used to offer Iced occasion cakes but decided to streamline my offering to the cakes and pastries I am most passionate about and stem from my upbringing. With that came the birth of a more authentic Italian brand which I am extremely proud of and the launch of my new website www.pasticcerialorena.com

Here are a few of my highlights of 2018 and ones I am confident will continue to take Pasticceria Lorena from strength to strength.

 

PASTRY CLUB

Due to customer demand for smaller boxes of pastries, Pastry Club was born.  An opportunity to get a monthly fix of my Italian patisserie on a smaller scale, boxes of 10-12 pastries available for pre-order on a set date each month. I trialled new recipes, which went down a storm and boxes themed for specific occasions like valentines, Mother’s Day and Christmas proved very popular. Pastry Club is definitely something I am working on developing for 2019 with a new and improved service, new recipes and the possibility of a delivery service too.

WEDDINGS

I have been catering for weddings for a few years now, but this year the traditional ‘Torta Nuziale’ became a really popular alternative to a tiered cake and accompanied with my growing Italian patisserie selection, made for some beautiful wedding dessert tables. I absolutely loved working with some amazing couples on their weddings last year and am so excited about the new wedding offerings I have in store for 2019.

COLLABORATIONS

Whilst attending a summer wedding showcase in July last year I had the pleasure of meeting the very talented Charlotte Elabd, founder and owner of Nottingham-based Fine and Dandy Events. Charlotte is a fabulous event stylist, specialising in Weddings and has an eye for detail and is bang on trend. She has a vast array of props, furniture and accessories to decorate wedding venues and I was so delighted when she agreed to work in collaboration with me to deliver more styling options for my wedding dessert tables. In November we worked on a shoot with the creative genius that is Daniel Hughes Photography in the grand surroundings of Stoke Rockford Hall Orangery to photograph some of our ideas for 2019. Here are a few of the looks we thought couples getting married in the next few years would absolutely love.

     

I am proud to announce part of my new offerings for this coming year are monogram Italian cakes, a striking alternative to tiered cakes, spelling any word or couples initials for that personal touch. Adorned with fresh flowers, fruits, pastries or meringues these are set to be the new trend for wedding cakes to come.

Lastly I couldn’t finish without mentioning one of my favourite highlights of the year and one which I definitely have plans to repeat in 2019 and that is…..

ITALIAN SUPPER CLUB!

Back in the summer, I was approached by an Italian teacher to provide pasticcini for an end of term event she wished to host for her students. Benedetta Zanardi of ‘A Taste of Italy’ wanted to give her students exactly that, so she set up an afternoon tea, Italian style with prosecco and of course my authentic pasticcini. The event was a sell out success and it led me to thinking, I should look to hosting a similar event myself.

I brought up the idea with my business coach (yes, I have one, all sensible business owners do) and after thrashing out a few ideas, she connected me with none other than award winning chef ‘Thomas the Caterer’. After a couple of chats he invited me to join him as a guest chef at his monthly supper club, so what started out as an idea for an Italian style afternoon tea, soon became an evening of Italian food and Drink……10 courses of fabulous Italian Cicchetti (Italian tapas) accompanied by prosecco, wine and even Limoncello!!!

Hosted by the wonderful Jo and Ben at Thrussington Village Store, the evening was a roaring success and definitely something on my list of goals to develop more locally in Nottingham for the coming year. I am also in exciting talks with Jo from Thrussington Village store about some other collaborations, perhaps a more dessert specific event, for the sweet toothed among you.

 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM PASTICCERIA LORENA IN 2019

A new and improved pastry club service, more weddings with a new fantastic range of styling options creating spectacular dessert tables, which are right on trend for this year, more events celebrating amazing Italian food and drink and not forgetting catering for those special occasions. In June this year I will also be celebrating Pasticceria Lorena’s 5th Business Birthday, so look out for some special offers and events to mark the occasion.

 

I am so excited to begin the New Year and can’t wait to see what fabulous work 2019 brings!
